So why vote? We vote because we love. We love the children in our communities who are being left behind in failing school systems. We love our LGBTQIA+ siblings whose very existence is being erased. We love our siblings of color who suffer brutality at the hands of legal systems.
I was reminded that God doesn’t just tell us to love our neighbors for their benefit; the command to love my neighbor is actually a gift to me, too.

But too often, instead of reveling in our connections, we feel alone and isolated. We are not alone.
We took the first of many steps (and we will definitely make missteps, too) in our work yesterday when we talked about how the church and Empire (white American culture) have worked together to make white supremacy reign in both our congregations and in our country. Our conversation was just the beginning of a lifetime journey toward antiracism.
In a culture of isolation, joining a small group is a proactive step toward prioritizing connection. Will you be counter-cultural with us?
I wanted to be part of a church community that goes beyond just “tolerance.” I want to be a part of a church that treats people, ALL PEOPLE with decency and respect. A community where we treat people as true equals, because we believe that we are all made by God and loved by God.
