June brings so much to celebrate – a celebration of Pride, the end of the school year, a season of rest and fun in summer, and the debut of both in-person and digital gatherings here at Two Rivers.
We step into this month still carrying the knowledge and weight of all that has gone before us. Pride is a celebration that is hard-won every single day; it’s an act of justice and protest every time we step into that space. The return to pre-pandemic activities that this summer offers us is bittersweet when we remember the people who are no longer here to enjoy with us. And as we gather again in new ways, we know that we are not the same people as we were before. All of us have been marked and changed during the past 15 months.
We stand firmly at the intersection of celebration and mourning, of justice and joy, of delight and wistfulness. This month brings all the feelings and emotions that we are capable of. I’m more committed than ever before to creating a community that makes space for every one of those feelings.
Throughout the pandemic, we repeatedly said, “You are not alone.” As we step into a new season of life together, we mean it still. In all that this month brings, you have friends and family and companions on the way.
In-Person Gatherings Start This Week
Our biggest celebration is this Sunday, June 6 at 10 a.m. as we join the Park Circle Pride celebration at Commonhouse Aleworks. We’ll gather in their Commonground lawn space for outdoor worship that has your favorite parts of worship – music, scripture, conversation, and communion – and we’ll also have an appearance by one of our most popular guests of the past year! I can’t wait to see you there.
We will gather for in-person worship again at Commonhouse on June 20 at 10:00 a.m.
We will broadcast the service live as usual on our website, Facebook, and YouTube pages as well. Whether digital or in-person, we will be together.
