Since March of last year, we’ve gathered together for worship online. Our community groups have met via Zoom. Our solidarity efforts continued unabated –– even increased –– with the additions of masks and social distancing. Our children and youth are growing, babies have been born, our jobs have changed, and our lives are altered.
Through all of the changes and uncertainties of this last year, our Two Rivers community has grown and is stronger than ever.
In just a week, we’ll be celebrating Easter –– the holiest day of the Christian year. This year, we get to celebrate the persistent, death-defying life of Jesus together in two ways –– both online and with socially-distant, in-person small groups. I am so excited that we are able to offer both of these options this Easter to meet the needs of everyone in our community.
In-Person Easter Sunday Gatherings
I know that many of you have missed gathering together for worship on Sunday mornings, so we are excited to pilot this format for Easter Sunday. Here’s what you need to know about our in-person gatherings:
- Gatherings are limited to 10 people, plus the host family
- All gatherings will take place outdoors
- Social distancing will be observed
- Masks will be required and provided for those who need one
- We will not serve food, but we encourage you to bring your own coffee
Our in-person worship sites will open at 9:30 a.m. on Easter Sunday. At 10:00 a.m., each site will stream our Easter worship service live. Following the service, each site will engage in a time of conversation and reflection — just like we normally do on coffee hour!
You can register to attend an in-person Easter gathering on the Two Rivers website by clicking here.
We are planning to offer this worship format again on Sunday, May 2.
Virtual Easter Sunday Gathering
While many of you are very excited about gathering in-person for Easter Sunday, I know there are also many of you who are not quite ready to return to an in-person gathering. Please hear me say this: that is ok, and we will continue to meet our commitment to provide you and yours with a virtual worship experience that is engaging, interactive, and uplifting. As our leadership team has prepared for this experience, we’ve done so with the mindset that we will not compromise our virtual Sunday worship experience in any way.
Our worship service will still be available to stream on the Two Rivers Facebook page, YouTube channel, and on our website. We’ll be providing instructions for our friends worshiping at in-person sites to continue to engage in the comments just like we always do, so no matter where you’re worshiping from –– we’ll all still be together online. We will also still hold a Zoom coffee hour after the service.
In other words, no matter how you choose to worship with Two Rivers this Easter, you can expect a time of engaging worship, fabulous music, a special guest appearance from our children, and the interaction and support from our Two Rivers family that you’ve grown to love and expect during this season of our life together.
Holy Week at Two Rivers
We have so many ways to connect with one another in this week leading up to Easter. Our Holy Week and Easter-in-a-Bag deliveries are on the way this weekend if you’re local to the greater-Charleston area –– so keep a look out on your doorstep for an Easter surprise! If you’d like one mailed to you or if you’re delivery doesn’t arrive, please send me an email and we’ll make sure to get one to you ASAP.
Here’s our full schedule for Holy Week at Two Rivers Church:
Sunday, March 28 at 10:00 a.m.
Palm Sunday Worship
Join us for the first day of Holy Week as we experience a retelling of the Palm Sunday story from our children, take a look at Jesus’ last days alive with special guest Rev. Bernie Mazyck, and celebrate our third birthday with a visit from Rev. Dr. James Friday!
Sunday, March 28 at 10:45 a.m.
Virtual Birthday Celebration on Zoom
To celebrate our third (!!!) birthday, we’re combining coffee hour and lemonade hour into a church-wide birthday celebration! Bring a cupcake and we’ll share our favorite moments from the past three years together.
Thursday, April 1 at 7:00 p.m.
Maundy Thursday Worship on Zoom
On Maundy Thursday, we’ll gather around our individual tables and remember Jesus’ last meal with his friends. We also will celebrate communion together –– the first time in more than a year. You can bring your own bread and juice/wine or use the individual cups in your Holy Week bags.
Friday, April 2 at 7:00 p.m.
Good Friday Worship
Join us live for Good Friday worship on the Two Rivers Facebook page, YouTube channel, and on our website. We’ll take part in a short, reflective service as we think about what it means for Jesus to be loyal to us throughout his life and how the cross is the middle of his story, not the end.
Saturday, April 3 at 6:00 p.m.
Holy Saturday “Egging” on Zoom
Our children are “egging” each other this year by hiding a special Easter Egg in each other’s yards and then sharing their surprise on a Zoom party! If you’d like to participate (hide one egg, get one egg), you can sign up here.
Sunday, April 4 at 10:00 a.m.
Easter Sunday Worship
We can’t wait to celebrate with you both online and in-person!
I could not have survived this past year without you all. Each of you is a gift to me and to this community. God has good things in store for us as we continue to tell the world that You Are Beautiful in all we do. I’m thankful for you!
