“There’s a season for everythingEcclesiastes 3: 1-4
and a time for every matter under the heavens:
a time for giving birth and a time for dying,
a time for planting and a time for uprooting what was planted,
a time for killing and a time for healing,
a time for tearing down and a time for building up,
a time for crying and a time for laughing,
a time for mourning and a time for dancing.”
These past 15 months we’ve lived so heavily into the times of uprooting, tearing down, crying, and mourning. And while we’ve seen glimpses of joy and moments of healing and wonderful things born, it’s now time to gather together to cry, laugh, mourn and dance together.
Over the next three months, our community is moving into a new phase in our life together as we begin adding in-person gatherings to our robust online options. We have lived our lives together digitally for 15 months. As more of us are vaccinated and we can fully experience the outdoors in summer, we are ready to take steps to meet both in person and in digital spaces.
Throughout June, July, and August, our community will have a mix of in-person and online gatherings. We can’t wait to see you in either or both spaces!
Our first in-person worship Sunday morning gathering will be at 10 a.m. on June 6 at Commonhouse Aleworks in Park Circle. We will kick off the last day of Park Circle Pride week with a Pride Worship celebration. We’ll have our favorite parts of worship – music, communion, conversation about scripture – and one of our favorite guests from the past year to complete our morning. We’ll meet up again at Commonhouse on June 20 at 10 a.m. for another day of in-person worship.
Our online worship experience will still be robust! Every Sunday at 10 a.m., you will always be able to find our worship streaming on our Facebook and YouTube pages and our website. We are committed to meeting you where YOU are and where you’re comfortable – online or in-person. Either way, you will experience the same interactive, supportive and engaging worship service in the way that you choose.
This summer we have a new round of groups just for the months of June, July, and August. We have a mix of in-person groups around the Charleston region on different days, times, and locations. We also have study and interest groups related to the Bible in person and online, and some of our focus groups, like our gathering specifically for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), remain fully digital. The full list of our summer pop-up groups can be found on our website at tworiverschs.org/groups. You can find out more information on dates and times and sign up for a group right there!
We have grown as a community through the most challenging season in our lifetime. We are a people of incredible generosity, we care deeply and lovingly, and every single moment we say clearly that we are inclusive, vulnerable, creative, beautiful, and authentic. I love our community and I can’t wait to move forward into this new season with you.
