Our community’s five values flow from our shared commitment to live in the way of Jesus.

We cultivate relationships formed in God’s design of mutuality, dignity, and trust. We recognize and embrace our responsibility to be open and honest with one another and our community about what it means to be the Church and the work we are called to do.

Luke 4:16-19; John 13:14-17

We embrace God’s gift of diversity within our community and throughout the world. In celebration of that gift, we wholly commit ourselves to equity and inclusion for all people in relation to and across intersections of race, age, color, ability, ancestry, faith history, national origin, citizenship, sex, sexual orientation, social class, economic class, ethnicity, gender identity, gender expression, and all other identities represented among the diversity of the image of God.

Matthew 19:13-15; Galatians 3:28; Romans 15:7

An important note: Two Rivers is a congregation of The United Methodist Church (UMC). For decades, The UMC has been divided regarding the equity and inclusion of LGBTQIA+ people in the life of the church. We find The UMC’s current policies regarding human sexuality to be exclusionary, divisive, and incompatible with Christian teaching. Read more here.

We create space for God’s Spirit to enter and speak by opening our hearts and minds to possibility, opportunity, and growth. It takes courage to allow yourself to be seen and to see others. The Gospel of Jesus requires us to ask difficult questions, speak truth to power, and seek justice. We will not be afraid to do so.

John 20:24-27; 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

We are inspired by the limitless artistry and complexity of life with God. We cannot begin to comprehend God’s love and grace, but we embrace the power of visual arts, drama, music, creative writing, dance, and all forms of artistic expression as we seek to communicate the mystery of God.

Psalm 8:3-6, Genesis 1:27

We experience the fullness of the beauty of God in our neighbors, throughout the Earth, and within ourselves. We embrace God’s call to protect and preserve the beauty of creation by walking with one another, caring for the environment, and pursuing relationship with God.

Psalm 8:3-6, Genesis 1:27
